It is my opinion that nothing good will come to the Town of Summerfield from I – 73.  This road is not being built to relieve local traffic or to benefit the citizens of Summerfield or surrounding area in any significant way.  This road is being built to serve as a major North-South Interstate similar to I – 77 to the west or I -95 to the east.  Unfortunately, the attitude of the local MPO and the DOT is that Summerfield has to be sacrificed to benefit the rest of society.

A road of this nature will put at great risk the rural character of the town as there will be enormous pressure on the town government by a small, but powerful, group to allow undesirable commercial development, through rezoning, on the property surrounding the major interchanges (i.e., fast food restaurants, convenience stores, and gas stations built to primarily serve the needs of non locals traveling through our town).  Aside from the road, my biggest concern is that the Summerfield Town Council will fold to the politics and desires of the small group of people that have something to gain from unchecked commercial development to the disregard of the rest of us.

My hope is that through the guidance of the nearly completed comprehensive plan and the ongoing encouragement of the citizens, our town council will ensure that all commercial development in Summerfield will be done in the right place and designed to serve the needs of local residents verses non locals driving through town, hence, preserving one of Summerfield’s important qualities, rural character.

Washington, here is your wake up call!  Will you pay attention?

I just learned tonight that the City of Greensboro is moving “speakers from the floor on non agenda items” to the end of the city council meeting agenda.  City leaders claim they are doing this to make the meetings more “efficient”.

Unfortunately, this “efficiency” is coming from making people wait hours to speak, in hopes that most people will not bother.

Shame on the City of Greensboro leaders, who obviously have forgotten who they work for, the voters!

Our government seems to no longer feel that it is restrained by the Constitution anymore.  The “downhill” process began with FDR. He was the first to use the Supreme Court to subvert the Constitution through creative interpretation.  This creative interpretation enabled the implementation of the “New Deal” and is the beginning of a long spiral downward as the Federal Government takes more and more from the taxpayers and creates larger and larger bureaucracies and more and more social programs.

The Federal Government has spilled over its limitations and has become more socialist every year since. Contrary to popular belief, Conservatives are not the problem. Conservatism is based on limiting the government to the restrictions placed on it by the Constitution.

Folks, it is time to defend your personal liberty and stop governments, at all levels, from grabbing more and more of your hard-earned money to enable growing the government bureaucracy.  Call, write, and/or email your elected officials and tell them that you want them to stop the uncontrolled, wasteful, and special interest spending.  If they don’t listen, vote them out of office!  Remember it is government for the people by the people, not government for the government by the government.
